I have been a songwriter since the early 1970s and continue to writenew songs as often as I can. It gives me great pleasure to hear othersinterpret my lyrics bringing their own nuances to audiences aroundthe globe. From my earliest recordings by The Sons of the Pioneersand blues legend Lowell Fulson to recent covers by John Prine and TenYears After I have always tried to work in as many genres as possible. Some of you may know me from my novelty songs like "Elvis Was a Narc", and "Lets Talk Dirty In Hawaiian" or one of the manyquirky songs I wrote with my friend and mentor Shel Silverstein. Some may label me a folk songwriter. I am very proud to have workedwith Bob Gibson, Tom Paxton, Nanci Griffith, John Gorka, BillMorrissey, Janis Ian and a score of other "folkies" who allowed me to explore their world.I've had hundreds of country covers of my songs. My archives holdrecordings by Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Bare and Lacy J. Dalton to name a few. In the late 80's I wrote a series of chart topping hits for Kathy Mattea. Nashville has been my home formore than half my life and my roots here have grown deep.Songwriting has introduced to new friends around the globe. "Angel Eyes" which I cowrote with John Hiatt has been a pop hit here and in Canada for Jeff Healy and was a number one record in Australia by Paulini. When time allows I try to search the internet discovering new artistsinging my songs. There are even a few videos on YouTube that willhopefully bring a smile to your face. If you have covered one of my songs or know of a cover I might not be aware of please contact me.
At this time I only publish my own songs and cannot accept unrequested material. If you feel you've written a great song I suggest contacting NSAI or one of the performing rights agencies.Hope you enjoy your visit here and share my music with those you love.Best, Fred Koller
